It’s quite amazing. After five years of posting lesson components on Substack and 30 years on the web, it’s possible to deliver topical, multi-dimensional, multi-modal lessons with complete answer keys each weekly or biweekly. Here are four topics I’m teaching at the moment. The first two are more general and the second two are slightly science-orientated.
Complaints and Annoyances in Customer Service (listening/speaking) covers expressing dissatisfaction in various situations. It includes audio dialogues ranging from mild annoyance to formal complaints, pronunciation work on linking sounds, a restaurant manager/customer complaint role play, and critical thinking on what bothers us and why.
Demographics for Medical Science (reading/writing) teaches the language of trends and projections, including population shifts, aging demographics, and future healthcare challenges. The reading examines how demographic changes shape medical priorities. Students write about a demographic issue that concerns them.
The Science of Taste (reading/writing) explores the language of taste perception and flavors from a (slightly) scientific angle. The reading covers the science behind taste, and students write about their own taste preferences.
