The Psychology of Money/Success and Failure /Describing Trends
Also experiments using AI to generate visual/graphic organizers
Today’s post consists of 3 new sets of language exercises for the topics mentioned in the title of this post. The complete sets of exercises can be downloaded at the end of the post. This post also includes a downloadable collection of Describing Graphs and Trends lessons from last year. So it’s a pretty comprehensive set of teaching materials for this topic. This post also explores the ability of Artificial Intelligence to generate visual organizers: brainstorming diagrams and word webs. The prompt for creating content for word webs focusing on collocations (plus a set of personalized questions as a follow up) is at the end of the post.
The Psychology of Money
1 Brainstorming
At present, I’m comparing Claude Pro Projects and OpenAI’s GPTs which both allow you to store and edit customized prompts for specific tasks. One interesting discovery was Claude Pro’s attempt to generate a colorful brainstorm activity (see below) based on instructions and documents I uploaded. It’s not perfect, but it provided an excellent rough draft to work off.
2 Visual vocabulary
Since the emergence of generative AI, it has become easier to fine tune images for vocabulary.
3 The Psychology of Money Dialogue
This dialogue practices listening skills for the vocabulary above.
4 Word Webs
Generative AI applications cannot create word webs yet, just as they cannot reliably generate graphic organizers. However, they can understand word webs and generate content for specified topics and target vocabulary. The annoying human work is the formatting! The “Success and Failure” word web focusing on collocations below is a better example.
