Urban Development in the 2020s
Share

This set of exercises focuses on Urban Development and is particularly relevant to the rapidly evolving urban landscape of the 2020s. It could be applied to various city planning and infrastructure contexts that are reshaping our cities in this decade. The target vocabulary concentrates on a specific set of terms related to contemporary urban living and innovative city design, reflecting the current trends and challenges facing modern metropolises. While the vocabulary may present a challenge for elementary learners, the exercises are designed with flexibility in mind. They aim to familiarize students with a useful set of current urban planning terminology, while simultaneously engaging more advanced learners in critical thinking about pressing city development issues of our time. This approach makes the exercises valuable for various English proficiency levels, offering insights into the urban transformations defining the 2020s and beyond.

As well as the exercises below, the download file at the end of the post includes: brainstorming, an urban planning dialogue (with audio) focusing on quantifiers, vocabulary exercises, pronunciation (Circle the Word, and Syllable Stress, both with audio), and personalized questions.

Quantifiers Classroom Discussion

Once I started this exercise, it took on a life of its own. I’ve found this format (the classroom discussion) quite successful before. I think it’s quite an enjoyable way to focus on quantifiers.
