1 Circle the word you hear for any topic
This exercise used to be one of my favorites. It’s a short fun exercise that energizes the students and gets them to really focus on pronunciation. A few years ago I stopped making this exercise a regular part of my listening/speaking classes. The main reason was that I got such a headache thinking about similar sounding words. Well, that problem is now solved. Now, it’s easy to create “Circle the word” exercises for any topic. Sometimes, it’s not 100% perfect and you might have to edit rows with 2 words that have the same sound but different spellings. The topic for the first example is food.
The prompt also works for a list of vocabulary. In this example, I’m teaching language related to sport and health. The target vocabulary is in the column on the left.
2 Past tense “ed” endings for any topic
This exercise is for past tense “ed” verb endings. It’s now possible to create this exercise for any topic (see the prompt at the end of the post). I should note again that you need to proofread and do a little editing for AI created exercises. For this particular exercise, I found that it always got some of the answers wrong.
The first example is verbs related to food, cooking and eating.
The second example is for verbs related to sports and exercise.
3 Word stress and vocabulary for any topic
I just realized that as I can now create these exercises so quickly, I’m going to use them more frequently in my classes. The problem in the past was that creating them was time-consuming. The exercise below again focuses on vocabulary for sports and exercise.
I should mention that it’s very important to also generate the answers (see below). And once again you might find a mistake or two (ie. beneficial, flexibility..oh it has a problem with 2 stresses in one word?).
